Bonnie began dancing at the age of 6 where she spent her childhood studying and competing in dance throughout Central Florida. By the age of 12 she knew that in her tap shoes was where her heart was most happy and shifted her training to accommodate that. She began guest teaching at the age of 15, and improving her tap technique by studying under artists like Dianne Walker, Brenda Buffalino, Omar Edwards and Savion Glover.
She attended college at East Carolina University where she received her degree in Sports Medicine with a minor in k-12 Health Education. While at ECU she performed in 5 dance shoes, was a member of the Eastern North Carolina Jazz/tap ensemble that traveled across the state of North Carolina teaching and performing, and assisted local studios in building momentum for their tap programs. Bonnie moved back to Florida after college and began working as a Certified Athletic trainer and High school Health and PE teacher in 2004. She works full time at Lake Mary Preparatory school as their Head Athletic Trainer while also teaching Introduction to Sports Medicine courses.
Duvall Dance Academy is extremely lucky to have Bonnie on staff, as she has been able to utilize her kinesiology knowledge from her degree to help our dancers better understand their needs nutritionally as well as kinetically. Bonnie has been teaching with Tamara Duvall for the past 13 years where she has taught both recreationally and competitively. Her high energy, upbeat numbers have received numerous choreography and high score awards both regionally and nationally.
